ERP Consultant Reviews: NetSuite Implementation Best Practices Part 2

NetSuite implementation part 2 As ERP consultants with years of experience implementing ERP systems, we are pleased to share some of the best practices we have developed to accelerate the process and mitigate the risks associated with NetSuite implementations. In Part 1, we discussed the NetSuite implementation Process and People. In this blog, we look at the issue of project documentation.

NetSuite Implementations Have 3 Common Irresistible Processes

Your NetSuite implementation is not going to remain static for long. Once it has been implemented and taken live, your implementation will evolve driven by three almost irresistible processes. These are:

  1. Evolving User Knowledge – Regardless of how well-designed your initial system is, once you go live, you will likely want to refine it to reflect how your users use it.  Once it is put into the hands of users, refinement will be needed to meet the real-world operational needs and the actual working experiences of those users.
  2. Changing Business Needs - In today’s economy, businesses are in a constant state of evolution and their business systems must evolve with them in order to retain their value. It therefore stands to reason that the fit of an application against a company’s business processes must be continuously monitored and functionality, workflows and business processes adjusted.
  3. NetSuite Enhancements and Updates - NetSuite is constantly enhancing their solutions to reflect their own - and their users’ – views of how these solutions should evolve. The Cloud business model ensures that all users are on the latest version of NetSuite and this means that users must be kept abreast of new functionality and of the possible additional capabilities it can provide to their business.

In this environment, where does documentation fit in? How could it ever have value and be kept up-to-date? In DSG’s opinion, the answer is simple: apart from high-level design documents that capture the key business processes and workflows, documentation has little value in the ever agile, constantly changing Cloud business world.
