Salesforce.com has been around since 1999 and is the poster-child of the cloud. Applications analyst firm, Apps Run the World, estimated in June 2013 that Salesforce.com’s more than 100,000 customers represented 10.8 million users worldwide, a number that will probably exceed 12 million by the end of this year through organic growth and the $2.5 billion acquisition of ExactTarget.

While NetSuite’s customer, user and revenue statistics may not match Salesforce.com’s, in many ways their achievement has been greater because they had to compete for market share in a mature market dominated by entrenched players with high-profiles and deep pockets.

2013 was another landmark year for NetSuite. They closed the year with their strongest quarter ever, bringing revenue for the year to $414.5 million, a year-over-year increase of 34%.
